City to Hold Open House Introducing new Business Partners

The City is hosting an open house on Wednesday, February 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to introduce its new business partners to the community. Representatives from the Lewis and Shapell companies will be on hand to meet members of the community and provide information about the work they have done in other communities with regard to development.
These two companies have forged a partnership to work with the City of Santa Clarita over the next year in an effort to assist the City to purchase the Whittaker Bermite property, an option the City has as a result of settling two lawsuits in 2010 regarding portions of the property. City of Santa Clarita Reaches Historic Dip in Crime Stats

Proactive gang enforcement and a strong emphasis on juvinille crime prevention are a focus of the SCV Sheriffs.

Following a regional trend, the City of Santa Clarita saw a dip in its Part I crime rate for 2010, with reductions over the previous year in homicide, assault, robbery, burglary, larceny, grand theft auto, and arson.

Santa Clarita’s crime rate was down 13.3% for Part I, or serious crimes, which includes a dramatic 75% decrease in homicides and a 50% decrease in arson. Violent crime was down 12.2%. Burglary dropped 18.6% and grand theft auto dropped 25.7%. The City’s full year overall Part I crime rate fell to 179 per every 10,000 population, a number not seen in 23 years of incorporation. 17 Year Anniversiary of 1994 Northridge Earthquake Today

Monday January 17, 2011 is the 17 year anniversary of the Northridge Earthquake, which had devastating effects and caused over 27 million dollars in damage throughout the City of Santa Clarita.  The priority objectives of the City during a disaster are to protect lives, property and the environment.  The City of Santa Clarita maintains emergency operations response plans and procedures for various types of disasters and emergencies.  The plans are developed to strengthen the City’s ability to prepare, mitigate, respond and recover from disasters.

In the event of an emergency, the City utilizes numerous means of communication to keep residents updated. The Emergency Notification System is a regional notification system that is capable of sending notifications via landlines, cell phones, (voice & text) and email.  The system utilizes the regions 911 database, and is able to contact landline telephones whether listed or unlisted. You may register additional telephone numbers, such as cell phones, or an internet service (Voice over IP (VoIP) with the City at .
